Brenda Mischuk
Administrative Support
Brenda has a career spanning 35 years in the human services field. Brenda joined the Skills family in 2006 as a Team Leader. Her passion for supporting people with disabilities embraces her values of creativity and innovation.
Brenda has led, and participated in many Skills projects over the years, such as the Citizenship Projects and the Nina Haggerty arts projects. Her innovative ideas were to introduce folks to growing their own vegetables in their home gardens and then sharing with their neighbours. She helped orchestrate a community BBQ and block party to introduce some of the individuals, she and her team supported, to their community. In attendance were community police officers and the local fire department. The Edmonton Public Library Van came out, as well as the local Sobey’s grocery store donated food and treats. The Skills Tea Van was also on-site to serve refreshments. Several volunteers were on hand to serve the nearly 100-plus people.
Brenda has worked on a few pilot projects and led her many teams by teaching and mentoring by setting examples of kindness, empathy, and devotion to the people and her teams supported. As a result, many of her staff have elevated themselves to Team Leaders and beyond. Brenda was nominated and was the recipient of the Citizenship Award.
After an unforeseen medical set back, Brenda did not resign but was asked to stay on and manage the agency’s files. In addition, she also manages Skills’ offsite file storage facility. Brenda believes all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and is proud to work alongside like-minded people.
