Skills Society Summer Picnic 2023

Skills Society’s annual summer picnic brings community together to connect and celebrate summer

On August 8th, members and friends of the Skills Society community, including people served, staff, board members, and their families, gathered at Laurier Park for a summer picnic. Despite a bit of rain, the Skills community made the most of the day! Laughter echoed through the park, as people gathered to connect and catch up, play lawn games, and enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch. The Skills community was also joined by special guests the Honourable Minister Jason Nixon, Andrea Hesse and Nilima Sonpal-Valias from Alberta Council of Disability Services, and members of the Edmonton Elks Cheer team.

Thank you!

Events like this are made possible by the hard work of many who contribute their time, energy and talents. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who played a part in bringing this event to life!

  • ATCO for the generous donation of canopies.

  • CommuniTEA Van for the community building which included games, cold drinks, and fun button making.

  • Edmonton Elks for joining us for the afternoon and the generous door prize donation of Edmonton Elks game tickets.

  • Minister Nixon for connecting with and getting to know our community, and bringing greetings from the province.

  • The countless Skills Society hosts and volunteers for organizing, setting up and hosting the event.

Lastly, the picnic would not be a success without the members of our Skills Society community. Thank you for joining us and contributing to building our community. We’re already looking forward to reuniting at next year’s picnic!
